Leon Klinghoffer relaxed in the sun on the deck of Italian cruise ship Achille Lauro two days before Palestinian hijackers shot him and threw his body into the sea.
Alex Odeh, shown here with his three daughters, was the second and largely unknown victim of the hijacking. He was killed by a bomb at his office during the hijacking.
Irv Rubin, shown here in a 1979 demonstration, probably ordered the killing of Alex Odeh. Rubin, the long-time head of the radical Jewish Defense League, died in jail in 2002 while awaiting his trial for conspiring to bomb an Islamic mosque in Los Angeles.
Mohammed "Abu" Abbas planned and supervised the Achille Lauro hijacking. He is pictured here at a news conference in Gaza City in 1996. The U.S. government was furious when Italy released Abbas shortly after the hijacking, but gained some satisfaction in 2003 when U.S. military forces detained Abbas in Baghdad. In 2004, he died of natural causes while in custody, although no charges against him were pending.
